Immersive exhibit: David Bowie is, the only Italian date
An immersive exhibit brings the thin white duke back to life with innovative and engaging storytelling
David Bowie Is is the only Italian date dedicated to the extraordinary career of David Bowie, an immersive exhibit organized by MAMbo, the Museum of Modern Art of Bologna
3P Technologies was chosen as the technological partner for the design and installation of the multimedia solutions, studied specifically to integrate the artistic and design concept of the exhibit in the MAMbo spaces.
The technical team of 3P Technologies provided assistance to the official producers of the exhibit in order to assess the creative project and define its mode of operation, preparing the final personalized layout constructed in the MAMbo premises, including the customization of the mechanical structures for the positioning of the equipment used. Integrating the totally multimedia solutions of “David Bowie Is” with the spaces available in the museum, having to prepare multiple rooms guaranteeing the synchronization of contributions within the exhibit path, and avoiding any type of audio and video overlapping from room to room, were the major challenges to overcome.
Engaging digital content accompanies the public inside the creative process of the thin white duke
The exhibit combined an eclectic selection of over 300 objects (including handwritten texts, drawings, and costumes) with an impactful design characterized by multimedia installations and single, immersive video projections.
The most complex part of the show, as it can properly be called, was the management of the audio content. The show was in fact unique in that it could only be visited with an audioguide, where the audio and video contents of the single parts of the exhibition were perfectly synchronized from environment to environment without any action needed by the user.
GuidePORT, the solution developed for the exhibit, allowed the visitors to enjoy an individual tour and explore David Bowie Is with total freedom and autonomy, through Bowie’s music, art, and fashion.
Show moment: synchronized audio and maxi projections for a true tour experience
The last phase of the exhibit, entitled Show Moment, represented the true experience of the tour: the visitor, in the center of the room, was thrown into a new dimension. The audio in the earphones was synchronized with maxi projections of 100 square meters in which each reproduced phases of the White Duke’s life and concerts, and simultaneously a system of over 300 points of light illuminated the costumes he wore during the performance of the songs played.
